The BCCI announced that the series starts on October 22 in Mumbai. In 2016 India had hosted New Zealand for 5 match ODI series in which India won series by 4-1. Before series, New Zealand would play 2 warm up match which is schedule on October 17 and October 19 in Mumbai.  Before ODI series India also hosted New Zealand for 4 match Test series in which New Zealand lost by 4-0. That was the last series for MS Dhoni as an Indian Captain in limited over.
