The Mumbai Indians (MI) may probably be playing 11 against Rising Pune Supergiant. It is estimated that Rohit Sharma’s side will be looking to continue the six-game winning streak against the team they have lost to in this year’s IPL i.e. IPL 2017 MI vs RPS.
After losing the opening of the game against Rising Pune Supergiant, Mumbai Indians might have got a sense. But instead of going a losing streak as they had done in the past few seasons, they have gone a six-game winning streak which has put them within touching distance making it to the play-off. On Monday they will take side they have beaten them in this year’s competition to the hope of exacting revenge and extending their winning streak. So the question is that, Can RPS carry on the momentum from their win over the team of SRH with another one against Mumbai Indians?
The Rising Pune Supergiant, has determined to clear their dismal record in the IPL are slowly finding their way in the mix. A win against the champions in the last game would have created their confidence a world of good, especially the comeback of the finisher, M.S Dhoni.
Here the line of the team might look against the Mumbai Indians:
- Ajinkya Rahane:
This year Ajinkya Rahane is not in form which could be seen in the last year IPL 2016. So play under a new captain, Rahane has started off with a bang scoring 60 in the first game against MI. Against the Sunrisers, in the tricky chase he had only contributed 2 runs.
- Steve Smith:
To save the disaster of the last year, the new captain is on a mission. As a batsman he had been undone by the googly of Rashid khan in the last match. There was a kind of disgust in his reaction saying it all. This match will be the primary motive when he will be walking out to bat against MI.
- S Dhoni:
the Indian Former Captain has finally got his mojo back by tearing the Sunrisers attack open with a breathe taking innings to take his side home. As the promotion up the order was in the offing, Dhoni grabbed opportunity with his both hands open against the last year’s title winners.
He scored 61 runs just in 34 balls which includes five 4’s and three 6’s. Today he has been expecting in the same role against MI as well.
- Ben Stokes:
Recently the most expensive player in this IPL has not lived up to the billing in this IPL, performing below from his lofty expectations. He took 3 wickets against RCB, but he is looking off-color with his bat.
- Manoj Tiwary:
The role of a finisher suits this player and he had managed to do it to some extent in the first few matches. A setback (personal) forced him to form the lower middle order according to the situation of the game who can pace his game.
- Dan Christian:
The Australian has a vast experience in the game of T20 cricket can bring his playing knowledge to the Indian Pitches as well. Hard hitting will be going to add extra dimension to his game lending balance to the side.
- Imran Tahir:
This player made a dramatic entry as replacement and has been looking impressive in the middle overs. From the data of the last match while every player has been giving their economy greater than equal to 10, but this player had maintained to keep his economy under 8.
Now on moving to the team players of Mumbai Indians, we have the following data based on their performance.Even before the season began, MI were given a major upset in the form of best bowler Lasith Malinga, who was ruled out. Same was in the case for the West Indies international Lendl Simmons too, who was ruled out by playing just one match.
Mumbai Indians missed the playoffs mark by just a win, as they had to settle for a fifth place to finish. With seven defeats and seven wins, say that they have had an average performance. Not necessary to mention, it was definitely surprising to see them finish the bottom half, moreover they had a good squad which was led by Rohit Sharma. They however will be coached by Mahela Jayawardene replacing Ricky Ponting from this year onwards, so let’s see team’s fortune after these changes.
Mumbai Indians, has the variety and experienced has helped them time and again. The opening order dominating by Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu. Rohit himself is scoring well and has been receiving great support from Kieron Pollard and Corey Anderson, when it comes to putting runs on the board. Kieron Pollard doing his role in the middle order keeping calm in highly tense situations.
By considering their bowling last year, it must have come as a great shock to many, to see the team maintaining their bowling performance despite with Malinga’s absence. It was Mitchell McClenaghan who forwarded up this time, taking 17 wickets in 14 innings. Jasprit Bumrah is another promising bowler, who finishes the season with 15 wickets in his account. There are other talented bowlers like Harbhajan Singh and Tim Southee.
Martin Gupltill is another disappointment for the side, as the Kiwi batsman failed. Rohit Sharma, the captain managed to do a terrific job as the skipper, as led his sides through some tricky matches. In fact, this man was the Man of the Match for half the victories which the team got in their campaign.
