Portugal while taking on 2015 CONCAF CUP winners, Mexico in the very second game of Confederations cup, on Sunday, will portray the thrill between two of international soccer’s biggest stars.
Portugal’s most successful and the long time captain Cristiano Ronaldo is the reigning winner of the Ballon d’Or and he has led his club Real Madrid to Spain’s most astonishing La Liga championship and the title Champions league. This season also he will be leading his national team into Russia for the eight team tournament which is, in a way, considered as a practice for the 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP.
Mexico’s Javier Hernandez, famously nicknamed as “Chicharito” became his country’s all-time highest goal scorer last month and is in this tournament with 47 goals.
While Portugal is making its debut in this tournament, Mexico has made its appearance a total of 6 times in this prelude of world cup. The two teams have faced each other twice with Portugal winning both games.
The Confederations Cup is held during the summer before each World Cup in the World Cup hosting Country. The champions from each continent, the winner of the previous World Cup and the host country are brought up together for this championship.
This year the championship begins from June 17 to July 2 and has eight teams which are divided into two groups of four, generally named as A and B. This season group A includes Russia, New Zealand, Portugal and Mexico. While group B consists of Champion of Africa, Chile, Australia and Germany. Each team of both groups will be playing three games against other teams of the same group. After end of the entire league matches the top two teams from each group will qualify for semi finals. And the winner of those games will advance to the Finals. This will be a deciding game for the stake holder of this title.
The defending champions Brazil who were winning this tournament from last three times, could not qualify for this, because of their loss against Paraguay in quarter finals in 2015. And the teams like Portugal, Chile and Russia will have their debut in this tournament. The games will be hosted by 4 Russian cities named as Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Sochi and Kazan.
