Manchester united has proved to become the most successful club in the history of English football with a winning streak of 42 major games and with a win in 2107 Europa league final. They lead the overall statistics by 42 games against that of 41 to Liverpool’s.

It will be a pitiful line to write here about what Manchester united is, though I will be keeping it simple by just defining it as a professional club which is based in Greater Manchester, England, that participates in the Premier League which is undoubtedly one of the top flights of English football.

Influenced by the red colour of jersey the team was initially named as “the red devils”, the club emerged as Newton Health LYR Football Club in 1878, which later changed to Manchester United in 1902 and made the infamous “Old Trafford” stadium as its home, with the capacity of 75,463, it is the largest club football stadium in United Kingdom, the second largest in Europe.

United are currently in the chairman ship of “JOEL and AVRAM GLAZER”, and managed by JOSE MOURINHO.

The team was challenged by the grief loss of 8 lives in Munich air disaster which occurred on 6 February 1958 when British European Airways flight 609 crashed on its third attempt to take off from a runway at Munich Riem Airport, West Germany.

Despite of this calamity on them, Manchester united was the highest earning football club over the world for a whole year that is 2015 to 2016. Manchester United is not just a team now, but it has become a brand of football.

While talking about the dominancy of Manchester United, the statistics of last two decades are enough. Peeping over the statistics it clears that they have won 13 league titles, 2 Champions league and some other domestic and European titles. When the concern is about the major titles Manchester now leads Liverpool and is of course the undisputed most successful club in football of England.

Manchester united has crossed over Liverpool as the most successful teams in English football as far as we talk about major trophies after winning the FA cup 2016, League cup and Europa league in 2017. Manchester united is now possessing 42 major titles (20 League titles, 12 FA Cups, 5 league cups, 3 Champions League, 1 Europa league and 1 FIFA Club World Cups). Whilst Liverpool on the other hand is just a trophy away to tie this war of most successful English Club, having 41 trophies which include 18 league titles, 7 FA cups, 8 League Cups, 5 European Cups and 3 UEFA Cups.

Though, we consider the community shield trophy and the UEFA Super Cup etc. Manchester united is again on the lead with 69 titles against that of 60 titles of Liverpool.

Though fans of Chelsea always compare with Manchester united but as clear from the statistics Chelsea possess almost only half of what United have got. Statistics show about only 22 of the titles against that of 42 possessed by Manchester United.

Though Arsenal has got quite impressive players it’s on the third position in the list of most successful clubs. Arsenal has managed to score a total of 30 trophies due to which it is currently occupying the 3rd position.

Although this sort of text is meant for the most successful club, I won’t restrict this one to only those who are at the top, or near to top positions but here I will also be talking about those who played fair and did well to reach to their position, though whatever they are. So teams like Aston villa, Tottenham, Everton and others like them, also have got a huge success and respect in a short span of time.

But as going on statistics one must say that it’s the battle for glory between Liverpool and Manchester united, as they are just alongside each other with a difference of just 1 title, well that is obviously not a huge difference anyways it will be fun to hang on and wait for the next title ship in between them.

Since Manchester united played their first competitive, almost 900 players have made their appearance for the club, of which 204 players have made 100 minimum appearances including all those substitute appearances.

The player who has made its appearance for most of the time is Ryan Giggs, who made a total of 963 appearances over his 23 year spanning career, breaking the record of Bobby Charlton’s previous appearance record in the 2008 UEFA Champions League Final. Giggs also holds the record of most starts, having started in a total of 797 games. Charlton was the club’s top goal scorer with 249 goals in his 27 years to club.

So following is an incomplete list of players of the club

  • Bryan Robson appeared for a total of 461 times and also served as the club’s captain for twelve years.
  • Paul Scholes appeared for the third highest number of appearances for Manchester United.
  • Peter Schemeichel made a total of 398 appearances for Manchester United.
  • Gary Neville made 602 appearances for the club.
